10/10/10: International Day of Action to Prevent Climate Change

Oras Ida ba Mundu
One Hour for Mother Earth

On 10 October 2010 , more than 7,000 events took place in every country in the world to urge that greenhouse emissions reduced until the level of carbon dioxide reaches 350 parts per million (it is currently at 390), the level necessary to preserve the global climate.  The worldwide actions were coordinated by 350.org, and the new Timor-Leste Movement for Climate Justice issued a declaration (also Tetum), deployed banners, and walked across Dili to plant mangrove trees at the mouth of the Bidau river. Click here for advance information about the actions in English and Tetum.

Secretary of State for Energy Policy Avelino Coelho spoke to the group and planted a mangrove tree.
